The five key sectors of the e-learning industry are consulting, content, technologies, services and support.Worldwide, e-learning was estimated in 2000 to be over $48 billion according to conservative estimates. Commercial growth has been brisk. In 2014, the worldwide commercial market activity was estimated at $6 billion venture capital over the past five years,:38 with self-paced learning generating $35.6 billion in 2011.:4 North American e-learning generated $23.3 billion in revenue in 2013, with a 9% growth rate in cloud based authoring tools and learning platforms
